Why you should consider Air BnB for your next city trip

Finding a place to sleep during your next city trip isn’t difficult. Finding a great place to sleep however, could potentially be more challenging. Every city offers a wide range of hotels in all different price classes; generally, I find regular hotel prices to be very expensive. Especially because hotels charge for facilities and accommodation you don’t need: 24 hour reception, breakfast, daily cleaning & towel service, outdoor pool, fitness, wellness, and much more.

A better alternative is to search for an affordable Air BnB accommodation. I probably don’t need to list up all the advantages of Air BnB anymore, but just for those few without experience: this is why you should choose Air BnB:

  • Prices are way lower compared to hotel rooms of similar size and comfort. In other words: for your budget, you get more spacious rooms or apartments.
  • Choose a room, an apartment or a house. Yes, Air BnB isn’t just renting a room in a house full of strangers. Most Air BnB accommodations are fully equipped apartments or even houses.
  • Use Air BnB for any group size. Whether you’re just a couple spending a romantic weekend or a group of 14 people; for every group accommodations are available on Air BnB.
  • A lot of choice in every price range. We already mentioned Air BnB in cheaper compared to hotels, but that doesn’t mean you can’t throw money if you like. We regularly pay up around €80 a night; but you might as well pay thrice that amount for 1 night if you just need that little more luxury.
  • Great system of reviews & ratings. Of course, there are bad deals to do on Air BnB, but they are limited thanks to the great review & ratings system.
  • Payments are handled via the website, and so are the complaints. Along with the rating system, the secure payment system where the host only receives the money after your arrival makes the whole booking process very trustworthy.
  • Air BnB hosts love their city. No cold receptionists but warm welcoming hosts who are more than willing to tell you everything the city has to offer. Honestly, the best way to start a city trip is with a notebook full of tips provided by locals.
  • Feel like being home. Some accommodations are trendy, some are cozy, some are simple; making a long story short: there’s something for everyone. But one thing is certain: you will feel more at home than you would at any regular hotel room.
  • Stay where you like. In any major city, Air BnB possibilities are endless. You’ll find them practically anywhere: in the inner city, close to any monument or museum or in quite residential areas.

But do keep in mind the following important tips & tricks when booking Air BnB:

  • Take your time to look for the perfect accommodation. Due to the success of Air BnB many hoteliers and holiday apartment companies have joined the platform. Although prices and infrastructure can be great for such accommodations they do not represent the real Air BnB experience.
  • Get in contact with your host. Using Air BnB means contacting the host and arranging key handovers. It’s important to agree very clearly on the “when” and the “how”; you wouldn’t be the first one to arrive at the wrong address.
  • Keep in contact with your host. Use What’s App or simply exchange phone numbers to make sure you keep in touch. When traveling, many things can happen: flights are delayed, trains do not show up etc. it’s important to keep each other updated as much as required.
  • Align your arrival time with the check-in time. Air BnB locations are no hotels, in most cases there is no accommodation to drop your luggage while the cleaners are still preparing your room. Make sure you know where to stay with your stuff in case you arrive early and your room (or the host) are not available yet.
  • Ask all the questions you want. Hosts on Air BnB are loving their job with passion (or at least all people I met loved what they are doing). So please don’t be afraid to ask them all you need to know about the city.
