Since I forgot my girlfriend’s birthday present last year I’d had to make up for it this year. I secretly planned this trip to Madrid, only to reveal our destination when arriving at the airport. I must admit she wasn’t immediately thrilled by a 6 nights’ city trip to Madrid (the longest city trip we’ve done so far in our lives). I guess many readers share the same feeling: what’s to do in Madrid to keep yourself busy for a week. I can assure you Madrid has more to offer than we could plan during our time around.

Madrid is the capital of Spain; it houses the well-known Prado museum; and that’s about where the general knowledge of most of us stops. Same here. I had to do some serious research before I could plan our trip. In the next chapters, I’ll explain what we saw, tasted, experienced and loved in the city. This article is certainly not the optimal step to step travel guide of the city. It’s simply our travel plan and our experiences. I hope you’ll be inspired by our experiences to plan an even more magnificent trip yourself.
